PHILADELPHIA, November 30, 2023 – In response to the myriad of changes revolutionizing the health care industry, the Aresty Institute of Executive Education at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania has launched a new open-enrollment program Health Care Leadership and Management: Leading Through Change. Drawing on faculty expertise from Wharton’s MBA and Health Care Management curriculums, this on-campus program, running April 29 – May 3, 2024, empowers health care professionals with the strategic leadership skills and in-depth industry insight necessary to navigate and impact this rapidly evolving sector.
“People are overwhelmed,” says the program’s Academic Director Guy David, Chairperson of Wharton’s Health Care Management Department and Professor of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the Perelman School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania. “We want to make them more comfortable with the realities of the industry and help them learn how they can be more effective leaders in a very challenging landscape. They will see where they can effect change, and where they can start to move the needle.”
This program will convene emerging leaders from all parts of the health care ecosystem including clinicians, care delivery system leaders, health insurance executives, biopharmaceutical and medical device executives, and innovation company leaders.
“This is the reality of health care today,” says Marissa King, Professor of Health Care Management at the Wharton School and a participating faculty member in the program. “There are staggering challenges that other industries aren’t experiencing. If you are working in health care, whether as a practitioner, a payer, or a producer, you need to understand all of these issues. Being an expert in one isn’t going to help you.”
Sessions will be led by a confluence of prominent faculty across the Wharton School and the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, including Guy David, Lawton Burns, Ezekiel Emanuel, David Grande, Marissa King, Mary-Hunter McDonnell, Ingrid Nembhard, Samir Nurmohamed, David Resnick, Roy Rosin, Stephen Sammut, Hummy Song, Christian Terwiesch, and Kevin Volpp.
Program sessions include the Changing Landscape of Health Care, Leading Committed Teams, Operational Excellence in Health Care, Behavioral Economics, Strategic Persuasion and Negotiation, Leading Change in Health Care, Power and Politics in Health Care Ecosystems, Health Care Policy and Politics, Transforming Care: Innovation Strategies for Health Care Leaders, Psychological Safety, Health Care Entrepreneurship, Understanding Equity in Health and Health Care, and the Future of Health
Health Care Leadership and Management: Leading Through Change will run its first cohort on Wharton’s Philadelphia campus April 29 – May 3, 2024 and is now accepting applications. Prospective participants can learn more and apply at executiveeducation.wharton.upenn.edu.
